If you are searching for the best places to stay in Almuñécar, there are many choices to suit all budgets and styles. We feel Hotel Helios has it all, with a touch of luxury at an affordable price! After living in the Almuñécar area for nearly 5 years we’ve had many guests stay in locations around town. This is what we recommend for a hotel option, so keep on reading to find out why.
Recently we decided to have a “staycation”! Yes, a vacation just blocks from where we live and what an experience it was. It was like we really went on a vacation and we were able to experience our own town in a new light. We booked a room in the front of the hotel with a sea view and we weren’t disappointed.
One Of The Best Places To Stay In Almuñécar
From the moment we walked through the doors we were well taken care of, from our initial greeting at reception, to the attendant at the bar, the masseuse at the spa, the dining staff, as well as the housekeeping staff. Don’t be fooled by a 3 star rating, as it really feels as if it should be higher rated. The entire hotel has recently been remodeled and the rooms are very modern.
Rooftop Blue Bar
All I have to say is make sure you get up to the roof on the 10th floor!
The rooftop Blue Bar is the place to be at sunset, but it is only open for drink service during the high season. Not to worry, you can still enjoy the views all year-long. The front terrace overlooks the Mediterranean facing south, so you are in for some spectacular sunsets. If you are an early riser, you can also see the sunrise looking east towards town or the the rocks. The terrace is full of beautiful wicker couches and chairs as well as a few tables with chairs. It is the perfect place to gather with friends and recap your day.
There is a sun terrace located in the back of the hotel with plenty of lounge chairs as well as tables with chairs. There are a couple of outdoor showers available for you to cool down if you are sunning yourself, or you can just relax and enjoy a good book. You will have spectacular views of the mountains as well as the town center, you can even hear the church bells ring.
This is located at street level and has a very large outdoor terrace, with easy access to the pool and beach. It also provides plenty of indoor seating and a stage for the night-time entertainment. It is open all day, and it the perfect place to enjoy a coffee or have some afternoon refreshments. There are large television screens around the room, so if you want to watch sports with a sea view, this is the place. Various nights of the week there is also live music and dancing, as well as Spanish or international entertainment.
Spacious Modern Rooms
There are several room choices available to fit your budget, most of which have a sea view. The side ocean view rooms are very spacious and have a terrace with a sea view. We stayed in the panoramic sea view room, in the front of the hotel, with a very large terrace, a double bed, fridge and wonderful walk in shower. If the terrace is too crowded for sunset, the front rooms have the same stunning view. We also asked if we could view a suite, and all I can say is “Wow!”. If you like to take a bath with a sea view, the junior suite is for you! The entire room was just like a dream, from the small living room area, to the spacious bedroom, as well as a large bathroom and private terrace too!
Located directly across from San Cristobal Beach (Playa San Cristobal), you will be sure to have wonderful sea views. There are several shops and restaurants as well as the large Mercadona grocery store within a 2 minute walk from the hotel. You are also just a 5-10 minute walk from the town center, depending on your destination. You really do get the best of it all. There aren’t many hotels in the area with a location as nice as this.
The breakfast buffet is a real treat!
The assortment of food was amazing and it was included with our room too. They offered an assortment of breads, meats, cheeses, fresh fruits, cereals, dried fruits, pastries, porridge. In addition there were items to create a traditional English breakfast (mushrooms, beans, tomatoes, sausage) or a traditional Spanish breakfast (tortilla, tomato toast). But that is not all, my favorite was the serviced made to order cooking station, with fresh eggs, omelets, pancakes and bacon! Of course you have so many drinks available to you as well from fruit juices, to freshly ground coffee drinks, and even bottles of cava!
We were also extremely impressed with the service we received from Diana. She was so friendly and it seemed like she knew each and every person in that dining room. It was as if we were a guest in her home and she made sure there we were all well taken care of.
The dinner buffet is a bargain!
The dinner buffet had our mouths watering from the moment we set eyes on it. The fresh produce and colorful salads were a great start, but the main dishes were made to perfection. They offer a full selection of Mediterranean and international dishes, including meats and fish grilled to order. Of course there are a full assortment of drinks and bread to go along with your meal.
Refreshing Pool & Spa
The outdoor pool is open all year, of course it is heated in the winter. It is located on the ground floor just near the outdoor terrace bar. There is also a Jacuzzi at this level. You will also find an additional Jacuzzi on the 10th floor rear roof terrace, located with the Spa. The spa offers a variety of treatments at very reasonable prices.
Tip: If you happen to be a local, you should really check out the spa. The massage is wonderful and I am still in awe of the low prices, especially at a hotel spa. Oh and the pool is also available for day use for a small fee.
Have you ever been on a cruise , where they have a list of daily activities up on the board in the hall? Well, this is no different, they ensure that you have activities and entertainment every day. They have Spanish lessons, ping-pong, a TV lounge and book library, pool table, games and more. Every Sunday night they offer live Flamenco shows, other nights of the week there is live music and dancing. They also rent bicycles for you to go explore on your own or you can take advantage of a day tour!
Meetings & Events
Believe it or not, I was a hotel manager for many years at a 5-star property in the heart of San Francisco. That said, I have a weird curiosity to check out every hotel we stay in and see what they have to offer. I was surprised to learn Hotel Helios has large banquet and meeting spaces. The hotel doesn’t look so big from the exterior, but it is surprisingly spacious and an ideal location for a gathering.
There you have it! That’s why we think it is one of the best places to stay in Almuñécar. What do you think? If you would like to contact Hotel Helios, their information is below.
