There are 4 main Almuñécar Supermarkets or Grocery Stores in the area, including La Herradura, Motril and Vélez-Málaga .  There are also several specialty markets or small stores where you will be able to find imported or international products.  A few of these are open for limited hours on Sundays.  Check for details in the Almuñécar Directory now.

Supermercado Almuñécar Supermarkets & Grocery Stores

Not everything named supermercado (supermarket) is a big market.  There are many small shops with the name supermarket in their names.  When we think of a supermarket, we envision several aisles of shopping along with several cashiers for check out.  There are many small supermercados around town, along Velilla beach and in La Herradura, but the bigger stores are mainly in Almuñécar.  We have them listed below with 3 in Almuñécar and 1 smaller in La Herradura.

 

Mercadona Almunecar Supermarket (2 locations)

9:00 –  21:30 h Monday – Saturday   (summer hours June 20 – Sept 15 closes at 22:00)
Mercadona is by far the largest Almuñécar supermarkets.  The location near San Cristobal is very similar to “American Style” Grocery shopping.  Plenty of shopping space and parking as well.  This store opened in May of 2012, so is provide a nice new shopping environment.  In certain areas of town you can order online or go to the store and shop, then use Mercadona delivery services.  Check the Mercadona website to see if your area is covered.

  2. Mercadona supermarket in San Cristobal
    • Address:  Avenida Mar de Plata, 4 San Cristobal. Behind Almuñécar Playa Hotel.
    • Mercadona Opening hours:  Monday – Saturday   9:00 to 21:30 (open until 22:00 end of June – August)
      Near Paseo de San Cristobal – Validated covered parking for nearly 200 cars

Dia% – Dia Supermarket (2 locations)

This is one of the larger Grocery Stores in Almuñécar.  It should meet all of your basic needs and it in a good location in town.  The Dia% supermarket in La Herradura is a bit smaller, but offers plenty.

    • Address:  Calle Larache, S/N  (Almuñécar)
      Near town center, across from Friday Market – Validated open parking
    • Dia Opening hours: Monday – Saturday   9:00 to 21:30, Sunday 10:00 to 20:00
  2. Dia La Herradura
    • Address:  Calle Rambla del Espinar, 20 (La Herradura)
      Just a few blocks to the east of the La Herradura / N340 round about
    • Dia Opening hours:  Monday – Saturday   9:00 to 21:30
      Sunday 9:30 to 13:30

LiDL Supermarket

Right next to Dia% you will find LiDL.  This is also one of the bigger Supermarket / Grocery Store in Almuñécar.   It should meet all of your basic needs and it in a good location in town.  You will find some imported items and some German Brands.

      Near town center, across from Friday market – Validated open parking
    • LiDL Opening hours:  Monday – Saturday   9:00 to 21:30
      LiDL Almunecar - 1 of 4 large grocery stores or supermarkets in town.

Al Campo Supermarket Motril

While not an Almuñécar supermarket, this is a very large store, similar to a Tesco or Wal-mart and located about 20 minutes to the east of Almuñécar, on the N340.  It should meet all of your needs and then some, as they do carry more product choices for international food.  They also sell appliances, electronics, sporting goods, housing goods, school supplies, clothing, and more.

Al Campo Motril Spain - This is a very large supermarket, similar to a Tesco or Wal-mart and located about 20 minutes to the east of Almuñécar, on the N340.  It should meet all of your needs and then some, as they do carry more product choices for international food.  They also sell appliances, electronics, sporting goods, housing goods, school supplies, clothing, and more. 

Eroski Supermarket (Vélez-Málaga)

This is a very large supermarket, similar to a Tesco or Wal-mart and located about 30 minutes to the west of Almuñécar, on the A7.  It is one of the cornerstone stores in the El Ingenio shopping mall.  It should meet all of your needs and then some, as they do carry more product choices for international food.  They also sell appliances, electronics, sporting goods, housing goods, school supplies, clothing, and more.

Almuñécar Specialty Markets

Markets or small stores where you will be able to find imported or international products.

You will find Spar in 2 locations, Olivares, Coviran (several locations), Komo Komo, and several mom and pop markets.  There are a few of these open on Sundays for limited hours, Coviran on Calle Pablo Iglesias and Spar on Calle Bikini, as well as Supermercado Al-Andalus at the far end of San Cristobal Beach.  Please check the directory for more information.

The Coviran on the corner of Calle Guadix and Calle Pablo Iglesias is open limited hours on Sunday.

Imported Foods!

If you are here from another country, then you may miss some of your favorite foods.  There are a few places to get some imported items around town or in the area.

  1. Olivares – has a small selection of imported foods.  It is located on Av. Juan Carlos.  Please see our directory for more info.
  2. Taste of America – it is just as it sounds, imported goods from America!  The store is located in Malaga, but you can order online and have it shipped as well.  Please see our directory for more info.
  3. Iceland – an old familiar from the UK.  This is located about 80 minutes away in Mijas, but you can find so much there.  It is worth a trip every so often. Please see our directory for more info.
  4. Al Campo – this is a standard large store like Tesco, Wal-mart, or any of the other multipurpose markets.  The nearest is located in Motril and they also offer online ordering.  Please see our directory for more info.
  5. Amazon – of course you can also have items shipped directly from Amazon.
