The second week of August means it’s time for the Almuñécar Feria and Fiestas Virgen de la Antigua. Time for celebrations in honor of the town’s patron saint, Virgen de la Antigua. It’s nearly a week full of food, drinks, music, carnival rides, and a procession. It all ends on August 15th with the biggest night in Almuñécar ‘s list of annual festivals and the most spectacular fireworks display around!
Food, drinks, carnival rides, procession, boats and fireworks are what you will get when you celebrate the fiestas Virgen del Carmen Almuñécar! This usually includes 3-4 days of activities and fun at the western end of San Cristobal Beach. Each night is full of people gathering at the makeshift bar on the paseo, as well as kids enjoying the small carnival, plus you can’t go wrong with churros and waffles at Elvira’s open late! Then on July 16, it’s the day of Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of fishermen and sailors. The brotherhood will take her and set sail the streets in a procession and then to the waters to bless her in the midst of a festive atmosphere.
Luz de Luna La Herradura will present you with hundreds of candles dancing in the night, lining the picturesque stone pedestrian streets in the old town. It is also, time to do some shopping, with artisan booths selling crafts and wares.

Who loves good food? Yes, you do! Every year Almuñécar holds a foodie event called the Feria Gastronomica in Majuelo Park. Be prepared to sample the delicious food from each of the stalls and also partake in a few beverages as well. It isn’t just about food and drinks though. No, you will also be very entertained and this is just one of the annual events which are the sign that summer is on the way.
Many people ask us about the weather in Almuñécar, so that means it time to make a post about it! Let’s first start by saying that the sun is usually shining, but it too needs to take a siesta once in a while.
Expect to see covered wagons, floats, horses, traditional costumes and a large turnout for the Almuñécar La Romería de San Isidro. Though Dia de San Isidro is May 15th, the Pilgrimage of San Isidro will be Sunday, May 19th, 2019. The event is organized by the Hermandad Virgen Madre y San Isidro de Torrecuevas and the support of the Ayuntamiento of Almuñécar.
Usually each year around May 13th, El Cerval celebrates the traditional Pilgrimage of the Virgin Fatima (Romeria del Cerval). This is organized by the neighborhood of El Cerval. It is also in collaboration with Tenencia Alcaldía de La Herradura and the Ayuntamiento de Almuñécar. The final party will be held in the neighborhood of El Cerval Alto.
