Food, drinks, activities, procession, and fireworks are what you will get when you celebrate the Fiestas de La Carrera Almuñécar! This usually includes 2-3 days of activities in the neighborhood of La Carrera, near the old town Church.
What is the Immaculate Conception?
The Inmaculada Concepción (Immaculate Conception) is a dogma of the Catholic Church, decreed in 1854 that maintains that the Virgen Maria (Virgin Mary) was free from original sin from the first moment of her conception by the merits of her son, Jesus Christ.
This belief should not be confused with the doctrine of the virgin birth of Jesus. That states that Jesus was conceived without the intervention of a man, while Mary remained a virgin before, during, and after childbirth.
In developing the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception, the Catholic Church contemplates the special position of Mary as the mother of Christ. And it maintains that God preserved Mary from the moment of her conception of every stain or effect of original sin. Which was to be transmitted to all men, because they are descendants of Adam and Eve. They were going to be the mother of Jesus, who is also God. The doctrine reaffirms with the expression “full of grace” (Gratia Plena) contained in the greeting of the archangel Gabriel, and recorded in the prayer of the Hail Mary, this aspect of being free from sin by the grace of God.
Día de la Inmaculada Concepción (8th December)
December 8th, is the second of two public holidays in Spain in early December. The first is December 6, or Constitution Day (Día de la Constitución December 6, 1978) which marks when the new constitution was approved following the end of the Franco regime.
Día de la Inmaculada Concepción (Immaculate Conception) is also referred to as the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The Immaculate Conception is one of the most important Marian feasts in the liturgical calendar of the Roman Catholic Church, and is celebrated worldwide. This day is a national holiday in Spain and is celebrated on December 8th each year.
You will find that most businesses and stores will be closed, but restaurants and cafes will likely to be open. Local schools (both Spanish and international) are also closed on the 8th.
When this falls on the weekend, the schools will receive the Friday or Monday off. The Feast of the Immaculate conception is celebrated in conjunction with Spanish Constitution Day on December 6th. This is also a national holiday. Depending on where the days land in the week, schools and shops may take December 7th off as well, creating a “puente” (bridge).
