Tapas in La Herradura, As you meander the streets of Almuñécar old town or stroll along the beach or paseo, eventually you will likely stop for some at a tapas restaurant. Just sit down and order a drink to let the magic happen of the Spanish lifestyle happen.
Okay, we must admit there isn’t about just one tapas restaurant in Almuñécar. In fact, there were so many to choose from we had to take a poll, just to narrow it down to 10 tapas bars. Even then, we haven’t yet visited every single one. Keep in mind, our recommendations are always a personal opinion and not meant to be a full restaurant review or all inclusive of every location. That’s what Tripadvisor and the like are meant to accomplish. We are just trying to help you out and get you started with a few yummy tapas!
What is a tapas bar?
A place that serves tapas! There are various names for eating establishments from a meson, cafe, chiringuito, restaurant, bar and so on. So, I m not going to get into the details between a tapas restaurant and tapas bar. I will likely just use both terms to mean the same thing, a place to get some great tapas! If you were to search in Spanish, you would likely look for bare de tapas or bares de tapas.
What are tapas in Spain?
Tapas or tapa is an appetizer or snack in Spanish cuisine and translates to a small portion of any kind of Spanish food. Often it is just a smaller portion of a regular main dish or meal. A tapa may be cold or hot and can vary from chips to a mini entrée. We have received small burgers, fried fish, mini grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, olives, paella, Russian salad, grilled pork, gambas pil-pil, a portion of a Spanish tortilla, and more. You may even make special requests for vegetarian tapas or other special requests.
Did you know you get Free Tapas in Granada?
We aren’t just speaking of the city of Granada, no we are talking the entire province of Granada. Guess what? That include Costa Tropical, so you are in for a treat with free tapas in Almuñécar. You should receive tapas with each drink ordered and then even more with the next round of drinks. Not all drinks qualify, but in general you can expect the free tapas with alcohol, soft drinks or sparkling water.
‘Free’ tapas are a gift of the house or a sample of their cuisine to tempt you to order more! This isn’t only in Granada, but other parts of Spain, like Extremadura and León. This has been around for a long time and since alcohol is cheap and there drink prices may compensate for the tapas.
