Returning Friday
July 3, 2020

08:00 – 14:00
The Almuñécar Weekly Market will reopen with 50% of the stalls and with the corresponding security measures and signage for access to the premises and visitor routes.  Given the security measures set by the health officials and coordinated by the Local Police, the agreement reached will be that they can only mount 50% of the stalls, which is about 100.  The stalls should have gel available to customers and wear gloves.  Also, there will be a main entrance and exit.  There will also be a designated flow of direction to follow at the market, marked by arrows painted on the ground.   Official Ayuntamiento announcement.

When is the Friday Market? (Mercadillo Almunecar)

Well, on Friday of course.  Though it is advertised the market is open between 9:00 and 14:00, It really doesn’t get going until closer to 10am. This is always a treat and be prepared to bargain for your goods. You will find everything from household supplies and clothing, to Spanish handy crafts, organic honey, ceramics, jewelry, spices, music and more.

What can we buy at the Friday Market?

This is a very traditional Spanish event, where most towns big and small have a market bringing the shops to the locals, rather than having to travel to a bigger city. As you meander up and down the aisles of the market, you will hear the vendors sharing the deals they have on offer as well as the vendors selling produce or cold drinks.

Friday Market Almunecar spices

It is an activity for all of your senses as the aroma which comes from the spices booths is enticing as well.  Our favorite spice and dried fruit stall is usually on the side, which backs to Lidl and the Chinese restaurant.  They have amazing spices, especially if you want to make some pil pil or paella!

Will I find souvenirs from Spain?

If you are interested in ceramics, there are plenty for you to choose from.  You will find colorful dishes, pots and more to decorate your place.  If you can’t make it to the Friday market, don’t worry, you may also find many great ceramics near the daily municipal market at Cerámica  Zayas ( Av. de Cala, 10).  Each province in Spain has their own special design and colors for ceramics, so there is much to learn while you are enjoying what you see!

No Friday Market during the Feria

This occurs every Friday, excluding the two Fridays closest to August 15th.  This is when the local fair takes place in the same location.

From what we have read, the market is happening August 2, 2019.  Immediately following the market, they will begin preparations for the feria. There will be NO Friday market on the 9th or 16th.

It is very difficult to find any free parking or street parking on a Friday, especially in the summer. Your best option is to select one of the underground parking options. There is one just a few blocks away from the Friday market on Av. Juan Carlos and there is another about a 10 min walk away under the Paseo del Altillo. We have written about parking in Almunecar and have a map to show the locations.

La Herradura Friday Market

Yes, there is also a Friday market in La Herradura.  While it isn’t anywhere near as large as Almunecar, there are some nice shopping options.  From ceramics, to baskets, clothing, and various local products (honey, olive oil, cheese, chorizo, soaps and more). 2. How can I get a stand at the Saturday market that is 1st Saturday of the month please? I’ve read it is the carpark at the front of Mcdonalds. Is this correct?
