Itrabo is a small white village tucked away in the foothills of the Sierra de Los Guájares and the Sierra de Ubrite. It is a great destination for rural tourism and the perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors. The drive up from Almuñécar gives you a day out to enjoy the countryside with fresh mountain air and stunning views.
Pueblo Blanco Itrabo
Itrabo is a very typical Andalusian Pueblo Blanco (white village), with excellent food and tapas in town! Perfect for a cold copa after exploring the many hikes and cycling routes from this lovely village. You will find the locals to be very friendly and they love to stop you for a quick chat and talk about the weather. This area is very popular with avid hikers and cyclists alike, with plenty of routes departing directly from the centre of the village. The big bonus is that there is plenty of free parking in Itrabo!
Located in the foothills and just a short drive from the Costa Tropical cities of Motril or Almuñécar. Though it is known the town dates back to the Phoenicians, there is only written documentation from the 12th century. It has a small urban center of narrow streets with adorable whitewashed houses and flower-adorned balconies.
See and Do in Ítrabo
The main historical points of interest in the town are the Nuestra Señora del Carmen Parish Church, the Virgen de la Salud hermitage, and the fountain called Carenata. August is the month for the patron saint festivities, which are held in honor of the Blessed Virgin of Health.
Snow and Palm Trees
Something unique to experience is the snow! It falls on the high ground in Itrabo in the winter and is a nice contrast with the tropical landscape beneath.
Something for the children too! A lovely soft play area with well-kept flower beds and a water fountain. Perfect for a stroll on a hot summer’s evening or to feel the warmth in winter.

Guest Contributor: We’d like to thank Rachel Adams for her part in this article.
Six years ago, Rachel came to work as an English Teacher in the Cordoba region of Spain. Her long-term dream was to purchase a property in Costa Tropical and last year, she was proud to open the doors to her lovely guesthouse, CASA PICASSO. This quirky townhouse is situated in Ítrabo, a typical Spanish village. Guests enjoy glorious mountain views and endless Andalusian sunshine, and it’s just a short 15-minute drive to the sea.
