Motril is the second largest city in the province of Granada and the largest on the Costa Tropical, with a population of about 60,000. The municipality of Motril includes the city of Motril, as well as the neighborhoods of El Varadero, Carchuna, Calahonda, Puntalón, Playa Granada, Las Ventillas, La Perla, La Garnatilla, and La Chucha. Motril is also the capital of the region on the Coast of Granada.

Playa Granada is an area along the Motril playa, near the port, and is one of the longest beaches in the city. This is where most of the resort hotels are located. In addition, there is a nice paseo and bike path along the Playa Granada. If you are curious about the port or like to view ships and boats, you can go to the Motril marina or ferry port of Motril.
