If you are looking for a shopping fix in the bigger stores, shopping in Motril may be just what you need. Of course you could also go hit the bigger malls in Vélez-Málaga, the Nevada shopping mall in Granada or Larios shopping mall in Málaga. If you are looking for something a bit closer to Almuñécar then Motril should do the trick. There is far more than just a visit to Al Campo.
Shopping in Motril Spain!
Just 19 km to the east of Almuñécar is Motril! Just off of any of these highways A7/ N340 / E15, you will find some bigger stores and more shopping options. It is nice to combine a little shopping with your trip to the Motril Foreigner’s Office. Many of the shops are within a 10-minute walk and it makes for a great day out.
There are 2 main shopping areas in Motril (centro comercial in Motril). While these are not shopping malls, they are areas with a high concentration of stores, shops, places to eat and more.
Shopping Motril South
On the south side of Motril at the main roundabout (MOT-21), you will find many shopping options. By the way, “Motril South” is just a name we made up and is not the official name of the area.
Alcampo off of Av. de Europa
Alcampo – This is considered a hypermarket, like a Tesco/Wal-Mart type of store. They carry groceries (with an international section) electronics, appliances, linens, limited furniture, clothing and of course food. This is where we get many supplies to make our Mexican or Asian meals. Click here to see our directory listing and shopping hours.
Leroy Merlin– just next to Alcampo it is a standard DIY shop with hardware, plumbing, electrical, wood, garden supplies and more. (this used to be Aki) Click here for store website.
Decathlon – next to Aki there is a new sporting goods store, which opened mid December 2018 Click here for store website.
JYSK – furniture
Mercadona – next to Decathlon Motril and Burger King. Click here for store website.
Lidl – supermarket and groceries. Click here for store website.
KIWOKO pet shop
McDonald’s is right on the roundabout at the connection of Avda. Salobreña.
ALDI – opened as of August 2020 in Motril and a new one is projected to open in Almuñécar in 2022.
There is also a furniture store and a few restaurants
Shopping Motril Center – Centro Comercial Abierto De Motril
In the center of Motril, you will find many high street and name brand shops. Many are located on the main street of Calle Nueva and more branch off onto side streets from there. This area is known as Centro Comercial Abierto De Motril (outdoor shopping mall). It is described as an open shopping center, within a small labyrinth of streets. There is the commercial bustle where small family shops are in the mix with the great national and international brand shops. Motril also offers larger stores making it the commercial capital of the Costa Tropical.
You will find Pull & Bear, Mango, Springfield, Bershka (closed in Jan 2021), Inside, Stradivarius, Oasis, Lefties, and many more!
The Motril tourism board has a nice listing of many of the shops available. Motril Foreigner’s Office

Shopping in Motril Map
In our map below, we have highlighted the two main shopping areas in Motril. We have also tagged where you can find parking in the city center. There is a third area on the map to the east, with many of the car dealers and the main bus station in Motril. Motril Rastro – Saturdays
The rastro begins in Motril !
everyone can participate here is a link of the whatsapp group to sign up to sell only second-hand objects, crafts and antiques
Leaving from the Almuñécar central bus station, you would just take an Alsa bus to Motril. Once you see the Alcampo on your right, you will go through a roundabout, with a McDonald’s on the far side. Ring the bell to get off here and walk back towards the shopping center. To take the bus back to town, go across the street (limited times of day).
The shortest distance and fastest route, from the center of town, is just to go east on the N340. There are 3 exits for Motril and you will take the first one to the left off of the N340 onto a side road. It will be just about 2 minutes away and on your right.
