Seafood & Fish Stores (Pescadería y Pescados)

Where are the fish stores?

As you may have noticed, the municipal market has been taken down and a new municipal market will go in its place.  Not to fear, you can still purchase all of the goods that were in the market, we just need to get back to the old style of visiting each individual shop.  In this post, we will be talking about the seafood & fish stores of Almuñécar – La Herradura (Pescaderías y Pescados).

While the new municipal market is being constructed, try these Seafood & fish stores Almuñécar – La Herradura (Pescaderías y Pescados). Read more on

Let’s start with a bit of vocabulary.

If you are looking for a place to purchase fresh fish (fish shop,  fish market, fish store, fishmonger), then what you want is a Pescadería.  Remember the term el pescado is the fish you eat, so often a store will have that term with the ending of “ería“.

It would be the same for a fruit shop – “frutería”, a shop selling meat “carne”  would be called a “carnicería”, a shop selling beer “cerveza” would be “cervecería”,  a shop selling bread “pan” is pandería,  Ice cream is helado so search for a heladería, and so on.

Shellfish and seafood are called “los mariscos”.

What is my favorite fish called in Spain?

While we don’t cover every under the sea creature in the world, we have a pretty good list for you.
