What is World Tourism Day?

This is the day that Tourism is celebrated around the world.  We have gone from just one day to celebrating over several days.  Some of the benefits include free access to some of our greatest Almuñécar historical sites, Castillo de San Miguel, Castillo de La Herradura, the archaeological museum “Cueva Siete Palacios”, and the ornithological park “Loro Sexi”.  These are all available on the designated days during standard business hours, advanced registration is not necessary.

When is Día Mundial del Turismo?

September 23 – 27, 2023

The Almuñécar City Council celebrates World Tourism Day from Saturday, 23 September until Tuesday, 26 September.  Offering free visits to our monuments and museums during this time, with prior registration.

This year there will be boat, tuk-tuk rides, diving, and kayak excursions. In addition to paying tribute to a dozen professionals and companies with the annual Tourism Awards ceremony.  2023 is the 19th edition of this celebration.

At the end of September we are always in for a treat with the Fiestas de San Miguel, in the barrio del Castillo Almuñécar!  Up high on the hill in old town, near the castle, the streets come alive for 3 days and nights.

Almuñécar World Tourism Day Schedule 2023
