In the middle of March we are always in for a treat with the La Herradura Feria and Fiestas de San José! This is the place to be in order to celebrate San José, Father’s Day, the coming of Spring, and all people named José. Be prepared for a few days and nights with activities, events, food, drink and parties.
Get ready for costumes, masquerade, parades, singing, dancing, music, activities, food & drink. It’s time to celebrate La Herradura & Almuñécar Carnival! The parades begin at one location and end with a party at another location. This year the party locations are at the Rio Verde Fairgrounds in Almuñécar (near Rio Verde Park) and at the Plaza del Centro Civico in La Herradura. Food, drinks, activities, procession, and fireworks are what you will get when you celebrate the Fiestas de La Carrera Almuñécar! This usually includes 2-3 days of activities in the neighborhood of La Carrera, near the old town Church.

At the beginning of December each year we can look forward to the Fiestas de Otivar, in honor of the Inmaculada Concepción (Immaculate Conception)! This beautiful pueblo blanco is perched in the hills about 20 minutes outside of Almuñécar. The village comes alive for 3 days and nights, with events, music, lights, food and fun.
The barrio of Torrecuevas Almuñécar hosts the Fiestas de la Chirimoya to celebrate the harvest of the chirimoya (a custard apple), in honor of the Virgen Madre. The Chirimoya Festival of barrio Torrecuevas usually includes 4 days of celebration, activities, music, dancing, eating and drinking. The Fiestas de la Chirimoya usually takes place around the 12th of October, which is also Día de la Hispanidad (Hispanic Heritage Day) and Fiestas de Pilar.
