Expect to see covered wagons, floats, horses, traditional costumes, and a large turnout for the Almuñécar La Romería de San Isidro. Dia de San Isidro is May 15th, but the Pilgrimage of San Isidro is often done on the nearest Sunday. The event is organized by the Hermandad Virgen Madre y San Isidro de Torrecuevas and the support of the Ayuntamiento of Almuñécar.

The festivities of San Isidro are held every year in Almuñécar around Dia de San Isidro (May 15th). This is the feast day of San Isidro and also the day of his death. This event grows, so be prepared for good fun. The streets are temporarily blocked off to make way for the Romeria de San Isidro (Pilgrimage of San Isidro). Who is San Isidro?
San Isidro is the Catholic patron saint of the peasants & laborers and is also the patron saint of Madrid. In Spain, he is called San Isidro Labrador (Isidore the Farm Laborer) and lived from 1070 to May 15, 1130. His real name was Isidro de Merlo y Quintana, and he was a Spanish farmworker known for his devotion towards the poor and animals.

San Isidro Day is May 15th. The feast, festivities, and pilgrimage of San Isidro in Almuñécar are either on the 15th or the nearest Sunday to that date. From the temple of El Salvador, after the mass in honor of the patron saint of farmers, the pilgrims will walk through the streets of Almuñécar to the Rambla de Torrecuevas, where the float camping will take place.

The Pilgrimage of San Isidro will start on Sunday, the 10th, after the 09:30 Mass at the Church of El Salvador. All participants will depart from the church in P4 and travel to the Rambla de Torrecuevas, through the Vega and the Rio Verde riverbed.

The route will be as follows: departure from the Church of El Salvador, Barrio P-4; from Puerto de la Cruz Street, take Tetuán Street towards Mariana Pineda. Upon reaching the Andalusian rotonda, up Rey Juan Carlos I Avenue towards Carrera de la Concepción and Carretera Suspiro del Moro, deviating through Calle Molvízar, towards Camino de la Vega Primera, until reaching the access to the river bed Green and exit in Torrecuevas by Caicillos. Tip
If you plan to take part in the pilgrimage, be sure to wear comfortable shoes. They may be dirty, wet or muddy, so be prepared.
If you plan to drive, you will need to take a different route. You will leave town via Carretera Suspiro del Moro and continue towards Torrecuevas.
Fiestas de San Isidro
You can expect food, music, and fun across from the Roman aqueduct. The festivities floats, and pilgrims will end at the esplanade of the Rambla de Torrecuevas. See the map below for driving directions in blue.

During the tour of the Pilgrimage, there will be the presence and collaboration of the Local Police, Civil Guard, and Firefighters of Almuñécar. Also, the Traffic Headquarters will assist with the passage through the section of the old highway in Torrecuevas.
