At the beginning of December each year we can look forward to the Fiestas de Otívar, in honor of the Inmaculada Concepción (Immaculate Conception)! This beautiful pueblo blanco is perched in the hills about 20 minutes outside of Almuñécar. The village comes alive for a few days and nights, with events, music, lights, food and fun.
The holiday season is upon us, and there is so much going on! It is magical to experience (Navidad) Christmas in La Herradura. We also know it can be not easy to find out when and where things are happening, so we compile the information and keep it here for you! If we know the information, it will be in this post, and we will continue to provide updates throughout the season.

We love the holiday season, and there are plenty of Christmas markets to choose from. We have listed those we know in Almuñecar, La Herradura, Motril, Nerja, and more. If they looked good, we’ve added them to our list. Let us know if you have one we should add.
While the Almuñécar Halloween, and generally in Spain, isn’t a big tradition for trick or treat and costumes, there are a few fun things going on. It tends to be more of the zombies and scary events, but there are some for the little kids too. We have included Halloween activities for La Herradura, and Almuñécar, Maro, Motril, Salobreña, Malaga, Velez-Malaga, and Granda. Every summer, you are in for a treat on the Costa Tropical. That’s because of the annual La Caña Flamenca! This is a festival featuring a series of Flamenco performances held over the summer months on the Costa Tropical. We will share all the details about the location, artists, and where to purchase your tickets with you.

Usually each year around May 13th, El Cerval celebrates the traditional Pilgrimage of the Virgin Fatima (Romeria del Cerval). This is organized by the neighborhood of El Cerval. It is also in collaboration with Tenencia Alcaldía de La Herradura and the Ayuntamiento de Almuñécar. The final party will be held in the neighborhood of El Cerval Alto.
Food, drinks, activities, procession, and fireworks are what you will get when you celebrate the Fiestas de La Carrera Almuñécar! This usually includes 2-3 days of activities in the neighborhood of La Carrera, near the old town Church.
